The Annual Young Stress Analyst Competition reaches its final stage at the conference. For more details on this competition, sponsored by Airbus, AWE and Imetrum, visit www.bssm.org/ysa10. Four finalists will be invited to present their work at the conference. The winner and runners up will receive a substantial cash prize.

Venue

The Department of Engineering lies at the heart of the campus of the University of Liverpool. The Department recently finished a £34 million refurbishment, and the Emex10 exhibition will take place in the new £8m Active Learning laboratory.
 
Engineering has been taught at Liverpool since the University was founded in 1881.  It is a member of the Russell Group, the association of the UK's top 20 research-led universities. The first Professor of Engineering at Liverpool, Henry Selby Hele–Shaw FRS, was appointed in 1884.  He made seminal contributions in streamline flow in fluids and in propeller driven aircraft.  Dr Alan Arnold Griffith FRS, who graduated from the department in 1913, made seminal contributions in the energy approach to fracture, the torsion of open sections, and the design of gas turbines.
