Key dates to follow

The 15th annual conference organised by the British Society for Strain Measurement will bring together leading international researchers from academia and industry to showcase research and innovation in experimental mechanics. The conference will be held at St Anne's College, University of Oxford. The conference will be chaired and organised by a team of academics from across the UK, Professor James Marrow, University of Oxford, Dr Hari Arora, Swansea University and Dr Daniel Mulvihill, University of Glasgow.

Conference themes
The conference covers all areas of experimental solid mechanics and aims to draw together researchers and industrialists from a diverse range of sectors, including but not limited to Aerospace, Automotive, Rail, Biomedical, Construction, Power & Energy. Abstracts are welcome on any topic that falls within this broad scope. The conference will have thematic sessions on specialist and emerging areas in experimental mechanics including:
• Innovation in measurement technology
• Measurement in extreme environments
• Evaluation of composite materials and structures
• Assessment of biological and medical systems
• High strain rate and dynamic response of materials
• Fatigue and fracture
• Non-destructive evaluation
• Structural health monitoring

Special sessions and chairs
• Composite Materials Dr Akın Ataş, University of Manchester
• Natural/bio materials and in situ mechanics session Dr Gianluca Tozzi, University of Portsmouth
• High-rate characterisation and blast/impact mechanics Professor Fabrice Pierron University of Southampton and Professor Genevieve Langdon University of Cape Town

Venue Information
The venue for the conference will be St Anne's College, University of Oxford, UK. St Anne's College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford. Formerly a women's college, it has been coeducational since 1979. The conference dinner venue will be held at Mansfield College Chapel, University of Oxford. Mansfield College chapel is one of the largest in Oxford.  The college opened in 1886, as part of the movement to admit religious dissenters to the University of Oxford.  The college buildings were designed by Basil Champneys, who was also the architect of the John Ryland's library at Manchester and a number of significant college buildings in Cambridge and Oxford.  The chapel, which remains central to college life, has stained glass windows and statues that depict leading figures from Nonconformist movements, including Oliver Cromwell.  Although Mansfield College is no longer a religious institution, its founding principles of freedom of conscience and educational access are still central to its vision.
