Workshop - Tomographic Imaging of Displacement and Strain Fields

The objective of this seminar was to investigate the state of the art and future challenges of depth-resolved techniques to measure displacement and strain fields within the volume of materials such as metals, powders, polymers, composites and also soft tissues and biomaterials. Examples of these techniques include: X-ray computed tomography with digital volume correlation, polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography, ultrasound tomography, wavelength scanning interferometry, OCT elastography and MRI elastography.
Applications include damage detection, 3D volume deformation, identification of constitutive parameters, evolution of micro and macro cracks in metals and composites, imaging of microstructural features in metallic or polymeric foams and general studies of mechanical phenomena that cannot be described solely based on surface measurements. These capabilities provide unique information to optimize the design of advanced structural component and advance our understanding of complex material behaviour.
