Procter & Chester (Measurements) Ltd, sometimes better known simply as PCM, offers a wealth of experience when it comes to strain gauging and load cells. Established in 1983, there aren't many industriesor types of application that it hasn't been involved with. Having held a Bureau Veritas accredited ISO 9001 quality system since 1994, you can be assured to receive a quality, fully traceable service from PCM every time.
PCM offers a full complement of services, ranging from the supply of standard load cell systems, equipment for hire, strain gauging installations, custom design load cells to load cell repair andcalibration. As an independent company PCM can select the most suitable components for each project to ensure optimum results are achieved. To guarantee the quality and integrity of every installation, strain gauging is never sub-contracted to third parties. PCM has its own in-house design team utilising SolidWorks and has Finite Element Analysis (FEA) capabilities.
PCM has a UKAS accredited force calibration laboratory, accredited to ISO 17025:2017 for the calibration of load cells to BS 8422:2003. A traceable calibration service is also available.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the development and evolution of our new, market-leading standard product range. In addition to supporting day-to-day engineering activities such as mathematical calculations, CAD design and technical documentation, this role has a strong emphasis on analytical engineering and cutting-edge product development.
You will work closely with our machining, strain gauging, and calibration teams to translate customer requirements and market needs into robust, high-performance mechanical designs. Job Title: Instrumentation & Control Engineer
Role Description:
As an Instrumentation & Control Engineer, you will play a central role in supporting the design, manufacture, and delivery of high-precision load measurement solutions. Working closely with production, calibration, suppliers, and customers, you will contribute across the full project lifecycle - from initial concept and quotation through to manufacture, calibration, and despatch.
This role combines detailed engineering design with hands-on instrumentation expertise. In addition to generating high-quality CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation, you will act as PCM's internal specialist for instrumentation and control, supporting both day-to-day internal operations and customer applications, alongside cutting-edge research and development. Accuracy, methodical working practices, and a strong systems-level understanding will be essential, as your work directly underpins the performance, reliability, and traceability of our products.
