Measurements Lecture

Measurements Lecture Philip Withers is Regius Professor of Materials at the University of Manchester and Chief Scientist at the Henry Royce Institute. His interests lie in applying advanced techniques to follow the behaviour of engineering and natural materials in real time and in 3D, often as they operate under demanding conditions. In 2005 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and in 2008 set up the Henry Moseley X-ray Imaging Facility, which is now one of the most extensive suites of 3D X-ray imaging facilities in the world. With Bill Clyne, he co-authored the textbook An Introduction to Metal Matrix Composites. He has made extensive contributions to the experimental characterisation of materials and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2016. |

Plenary Lecture 1 Eszter Szigeti holds a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Advanced Materials. She joined Airbus in 2011 as an Experimental Mechanics Specialist and is currently an Expert in Advance Data Acquisition and Correlation within the Airbus Structures Test department. She is based at the Airbus Integrated Research and Test Centre located in Bristol, UK. Eszter has 12-years' experience in advanced measurement technologies mainly focused on experimental mechanics and novel technologies for dimensional, deformation and damage monitoring. Her main role at present is to lead strategic multidisciplinary capability developments for future testing needs. |

Plenary Lecture 2 Salah obtained his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, with a focus on stress corrosion cracking behaviours in austenitic stainless steels, from The University of Manchester. He currently leads the Materials and Residual Stress Group at the University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC), one of the UK’s seven High Value Manufacturing Catapult Centres. He is an expert in the measurements, modelling and control of microstructure, mechanical properties and residual stress during manufacturing. |
